ELIGIBILITY
This event is intended to award recognition for interior design of exceptional quality. The project submitted should focus on the interior environment within an architectural shell. All projects completed by architects, interior designers or industrial designers that focus on the design of an interior environment are eligible. The design firm and majority of the project team needs to be from the State of Oregon or Vancouver, Washington. Projects must have been completed after September 1st, 2021 and prior to September 1st, 2025.
JUDGING CRITERIA
The jury will use the written and visual material for their analysis. Submissions will be judged for suitability to the project challenge, originality of the design solution, and the successful integration of planning, interior forms, finishes, and furnishings. It is imperative that the information submitted describes the projects as accurately as possible. From the qualifying entries, awards will be presented in the categories listed below:
- Best in Category
- Honorable Mention
- Impact Award
- Against All Odds
- Overall Jurors’ Choice
- Overall People’s Choice
AWARD CATEGORIES
Projects will be submitted in one of the categories listed below.
- Workplace: New construction, public amenity, renovation, small, large etc.
- Education: Higher education, PK-12 etc.
- Public & Civic: Government, library, performing arts, etc.
- Healthcare: Medical office, clinics, hospital, etc.
- Hospitality: Restaurant, retail, hotel amenity space etc.
- Living - Single-Family
- Living - Multi-Family: Mutli-family, student housing, senior housing etc.
- Sports and Recreation: Sports and recreation focused facilities, arenas etc.
- *New* Industry Partnership: Submited by vendors, dealers, manufacturers, contractors and other industry partners. Design firms may not submit in this category.
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Submissions should not identify the firm submitting outside of fields specifically asking for firm name. Please review all materials closely, including all descriptions, imagery, and floor plans before submission to ensure they comply. Entries that reveal the submitting firm will be disqualified and pulled from all submitted categories.
PROJECT INFORMATION: Provide project information by filling out submission form on OpenWater which includes the followings prompts: Team members, client/project name, project scope, project size (sf), cost per SF, contractors, consultants, vendors/products, and sustainability goals.
PROJECT SUMMARY: Maximum 300 words. Include client objectives, design program, design concept and any other information the design team feels is relevant to the solution.
IMPACT AWARD SUMMARY ***This is optional however, please be aware If you would like your project to be considered for an IMPACT Award, this field must be completed. Maximum 125 words. Include client’s mission and overall social impact to their community and/or environmental impact on climate. Explanation of how the design supports the mission and makes fulfillment of it possible.
AGAINST ALL ODDS ***This is optional however, please be aware If you would like your project to be considered for an AGAINST ALL ODDS Award, this field must be completed. Maximum 125 words. Explanation of how the project exemplifies award-winning design despite a limited budget, schedule or other extraordinary challenges or constraints. Accept waiver acknowledging the IIDA Oregon Chapter’s use of submission information and images. Accept waiver acknowledging that event tickets are not included with a project submission.
CLIMATE ACTION GOALS Commercial interior design plays a critical role in addressing climate change. Beginning this year (2025), all submissions must include a brief statement on climate action goals. Maximum 125 words. Please share your project’s sustainability vision and strategies—this may include goals related to environmental performance, material health, resilience, or climate impact. Describe how the design supports these objectives and contributes to sustainable outcomes. Even simple goals are meaningful, and we encourage you to highlight the ways your project considered environmental factors.
IMAGERY: All images must be submitted in JPEG format. Maximum file size is 10mb.
FLOOR PLANS: Sheets not to exceed 10”w x 7.5”h (size for legibility on a powerpoint)
PROJECT IMAGES:
Total Images Allowed
You may upload up to 10 total project images.
Each image counts individually. For example, if 5 photos are grouped on one board, that board counts as 5 images toward the 10.
Images should primarily show interior spaces. Up to 2 exterior images may be included for context.
Diagrams or other conceptual images may be included, but will also count towards the 10 image maximum.
Required Image
Image #1 must be your Primary/Hero Image. This should be your strongest interior view and will be used in contexts where only one image is shown (press, program, awards presentation).
Supplemental Images (Optional)
In addition to the 10 official images, you may upload up to 3 supplemental images.
These images are confidential and will only be viewed by the jury.
Supplemental images may include (but are not limited to) concept diagrams, sketches, process work, or design development visuals.
Supplemental images are not part of the 10 official images and will not appear in public galleries or presentations.
Technical Requirements
Files must be uploaded in an image format.
Rename files before uploading:
"Application#"_Image#
(e.g.,A4005_Image3.jpg
).Resolution must be sufficient for large screen projection and web publishing.
Grouped images should not exceed 10"w x 7.5"h (to ensure legibility in PowerPoint).
Do not add borders or embed text into the image.
If you wish to add a caption, use the caption box provided.
Note: Floor plan uploads are not considered part of the 10 project images.
PROJECT GALLERY BOARD: This representation of the project will be used for the project gallery at the event, both digitally and printed. Boards should be 24” wide x 18” tall, landscape orientation. Upload completed gallery board template as a PDF or JPG format with minimum 300 DPI .
Client/Project name: lower left-hand corner.
Firm name/logo: limited to a 3” x 3” maximum area in the lower right-hand corner (typically a logo). This is the only location where the firm name/logo should appear.
